This article examines the prescriptive alliance system and kinship nomenclature of the Northern Lacandon Maya of Chiapas, Mexico. Boremansse analyzes the terminology used to designate kin, revealing a system characterized by Dravidian features, including bifurcate merging and symmetrical cross-cousin marriage. He argues that while the Lacandon system shares similarities with other Mayan groups, it also exhibits unique characteristics, particularly in its prescriptive terminology. The study highlights the complexity of Lacandon kinship and its implications for understanding social organization and alliance practices in this Maya group
