Resumo
It is not easy to define cannibalism and its distinction from war or sorcery is never quite clear. In his study of this problem among the ancient Tupi-Guarani, the author examines the protagonists in the principal moments of sacrificial procedure : warriors, cannibals — to those the old women stand out in sharp contrast — and important absents, shamans and prophets. The author demonstrates how the different spheres of action between these characters interrelate, dominated by the Earth without Evil metaphor and ways used to achieve this. The theme of 'lightening of the body' is analyzed in detail. In this vein the connections between the diverse representation, via their oppositions and complementarities, are studied as a conclusion.
