Resumo
What does it mean to become an other ? Shamanism and interethnic contact in Brazilian Amazonia Juxtaposing an analysis of Wari' ethnography (southern Amazonia) with other ethnographic material from the South American Lowlands, this paper seeks to show how the idiom of corporality is both central to the understanding of the shaman's capacity to change identity — to transform into an animal — and essential to conceptualizing the Amerindian experience of the world of the Whites.
