In 'Reducing' Actor's Rationality: Why Go off the RMI Welfare Program? recently published in the Revue Frangaise de Sociologie, (1) Frangois Dubet and Antoine V6r6tout elegantly take on the full force of the inactivity question. Rather than polemicking on the moral and political assumptions or anthropological naivete of economists, who, if they did not produce the trap problematic within their own paradigm, at least legitimated it, the authors prefer to reappropriate the question and analyze it as sociologists -that is, not only with instruments and methods but also their own investigative approach and an interpretive ambition that leads them to explore areas that economists do not know how to study and generally do not seek to investigate
