Cet article repose sur une recherche ethnographique menée dans un laboratoire d'hémodynamique d'un grand hôpital italien effectuant des coronographies et des angioplasties. En adoptant les approches des Social Studies of Scientific Imaging and Visualization et des Workplace Studies, il dévoile comment médecins, techniciens en radiologie et infirmiers apprennent et développent cet ' œil diagnostique ' capable de remarquer - à l'aide de technologies d'imagerie médicale - les indices suspects signalant une pathologie coronaire. L'article analyse aussi le parcours de l'ethnographe qui, côtoyant les professionnels, apprend progressivement à distinguer dans les images certains de ces éléments pertinents. On verra ainsi que la compétence à repérer les signes d'une pathologie repose sur un apprentissage pratique et situé pour interpréter non seulement ce qui se passe dans l'espace perceptuel de l'écran mais aussi dans l'espace interactionnel partagé avec les collègues en coprésence. Cela comporte en effet l'usage de ressources sémiotiques multimodales - instructions langagières, métaphores et jugements esthétiques, gestes de pointage, orientations du regard, manipulation d'artefacts - rendant mutuellement visibles et intelligibles les détails pertinents des ramifications du cœur apparaissant à l'écran
