Resumo
This chapter examines the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, exploring its impact on formal Palestinian politics. It argues that while BDS has achieved notable successes in raising awareness and mobilizing international support for Palestinian rights, its influence on the formal political processes within Palestine has been complex and contested. The chapter analyzes the internal debates within Palestinian society regarding BDS, including its relationship with the two dominant political factions, Fatah and Hamas. It also considers the challenges posed by the fragmented nature of Palestinian politics and the ongoing Israeli occupation. By examining the interplay between grassroots activism and formal political structures, the chapter offers insights into the dynamics of nonviolent resistance within national movements.
