Resumo

This chapter examines the transnational social field created by Haitian immigrants in the United States. It analyzes how this field connects Haitians in the diaspora with their homeland, focusing on the dynamic interplay between transnationalism and the nation-state. The authors explore the various ways in which Haitian immigrants maintain ties to Haiti, including remittances, family visits, political activism, and cultural exchange. They argue that while transnationalism challenges traditional notions of national borders and identity, it also reinforces and reconfigures the nation-state in unexpected ways. The chapter highlights the complex and often contradictory relationship between transnationalism and the nation-state, demonstrating how Haitian immigrants navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by their dual belonging.
