This article verifies the extent of Pierre-François-Xavier de Charlevoix's botanical contributions in Histoire et description générale de la Nouvelle France in relation to the work of previous researchers, his assessment of iconographic and discursive representations, and their applicability to the French colonization project. It investigates what led him to reject Linnaeus's taxonomic model and what he intended with his catalog of botanical curiosities. The outcome of his philosophical-religious trajectory allows us to understand his position within the framework of nature classification, the meanings of ethnological information, the forms of intellectual appropriation, and the uses of botanical iconography and discourse as politico-emotional propaganda to encourage colonial occupation
