Resumo

This article introduces the study of Brazilian indigenous music, examining its diversity and complexity. It discusses the challenges of transcription and analysis, advocating for an interdisciplinary approach that considers the cultural context of music production. The authors emphasize the importance of understanding indigenous musical systems on their own terms, rather than imposing Western theoretical frameworks. They also highlight the role of music in indigenous societies, its connection to ritual, social organization, and cosmology.
