Resumo

This chapter examines how kinship was made and remade in colonial central Kenya. It focuses on the practices surrounding blood and the ways in which blood was used to create and maintain kinship ties. The chapter argues that blood was not simply a biological substance but a social and cultural one, and that its meanings and uses were shaped by the colonial context. The chapter draws on a range of sources, including oral histories, archival records, and anthropological studies, to explore the complex and often contradictory ways in which blood was understood and used in colonial Kenya.
