This study aimed to analyze the association between shift work and damage to the health of nursing workers. This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 330 nursing workers from a public hospital in southern Brazil. Data were collected using a sociodemographic and occupational questionnaire and the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire. The results showed that most workers had some damage to their health, especially in the dimensions of physical symptoms and sleep disorders. Rotating shifts and night shifts were associated with damage to physical and mental health. It is concluded that shift work, especially rotating shifts and night shifts, is associated with damage to the health of nursing workers
