This article critiques Judith Butler's later work, arguing that it disempowers transgender individuals and the broader queer movement. It challenges the reception of Butler's work in France, particularly by a transphobic psychoanalytic establishment. The article criticizes Butler for seemingly accommodating this establishment's political agenda by recounting an anecdote about an encounter with a transgender person in a San Francisco queer space. This anecdote, retold in Paris, is interpreted as reinforcing problematic narratives about transgender identity
