Resumo

This chapter revisits Bruno Latour's influential essay "From Realpolitik to Dingpolitik or How to Make Things Public," exploring its enduring relevance in contemporary political sociology. Latour argues that traditional political analysis, focused on power dynamics between human actors (Realpolitik), fails to account for the agency of non-human entities in shaping political processes. He proposes "Dingpolitik," or "thing politics," as an alternative framework that recognizes the active role of objects, technologies, and other non-human actors in constituting public life. The chapter examines how Latour's concept of "assemblages" helps to understand the complex interactions between humans and non-humans in shaping political outcomes, advocating for a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of political action and deliberation.
