Resumo
This chapter, "A Manifesto for Cyborgs: Science, Technology, and Socialist-Feminism in the 1980s," by Donna Haraway, explores the cyborg as a potent metaphor for understanding the blurring boundaries between humans, machines, and animals in late 20th-century society. Haraway argues that the cyborg, a hybrid of organism and machine, transcends traditional dualisms such as nature/culture, male/female, and human/animal. She proposes the cyborg as a figure for feminist resistance, offering a way to challenge oppressive power structures and envision alternative social and political possibilities. The essay critiques traditional Marxist and socialist feminist frameworks, suggesting that the cyborg identity offers a more nuanced understanding of power dynamics in a technologically advanced world. Haraway emphasizes the importance of affinity and coalition building across traditional identity categories, advocating for a cyborg politics based on shared experiences of oppression and marginalization.
