Resumo
This article is a study of the economic system of the Indian town of Panajachel, Guatemala. It examines the ways in which the Indians have adapted to the demands of a capitalist market economy, while still retaining many of their traditional economic practices. The authors argue that the Indians of Panajachel have developed a unique form of "penny capitalism," which allows them to participate in the market economy while still maintaining their cultural identity.
