Resumo
This chapter examines the increasing presence of spirituality in public debates and policies related to health and well-being. It analyzes how spirituality is being mobilized as a resource for promoting health, focusing on the specific case of Brazil. The authors argue that this phenomenon reflects a broader shift in the relationship between religion, health, and public spaces, characterized by the emergence of new forms of religiosity and the blurring of boundaries between the religious and the secular. They explore how spirituality is being framed as a complementary or alternative approach to conventional medicine, often emphasizing individual responsibility and self-care. The chapter also discusses the potential implications of this trend for public health policies and the challenges of regulating and managing spiritual practices in public settings.
