Resumo

This article explores the nature of political philosophy as originally conceived, contrasting its prudent mode of expression with the analytic or synthetic modes of contemporary political studies. It argues that ordinary political language still reflects the logic of prudence elaborated by classical political philosophy. The work of Leo Strauss, focused on recovering this logic through historical study, is examined. The essay contends that Strauss's historical analyses also convey, albeit indirectly, a political teaching. By analyzing Strauss's political philosophy, the essay aims to understand the relationship between his writing and the unstated prudence informing it, thereby seeking to recover the essence of practical, or political, reason.
