Resumo

This essay explores the evolving concept of individualism in American society, arguing that its traditional meaning has been distorted by the rise of mass conformity and the pressure to belong. The authors examine how individualism, once associated with self-reliance and independent thought, has become increasingly intertwined with consumerism and the pursuit of social acceptance. They analyze the social and psychological consequences of this shift, highlighting the tension between the desire for personal autonomy and the need for social integration. The essay challenges readers to reconsider the true meaning of individualism and its implications for a healthy society.
