Resumo
This article explores the concept of ritual as a space for negotiating and expressing a plurality of values, challenging the notion of ritual as a simple reinforcement of social norms. Focusing on ethnographic examples, primarily from Indigenous societies, Cavalcanti argues that rituals often involve ambiguity, contestation, and the interplay of diverse perspectives. The "unnamed rite" refers to the dynamic and fluid nature of ritual practice, which resists fixed interpretations and allows for the emergence of new meanings and social arrangements. The author emphasizes the importance of understanding the internal dynamics and contradictions within rituals to grasp their social significance.
