This article examines the Dravidian-type kinship terminology among the Kiowa, showing that it is not associated with a Dravidian-type social organization. The Kiowa have a two-section system which is not reflected in their kinship terminology. The author suggests that the Kiowa terminology is best understood as a product of historical processes rather than as a reflection of contemporary social organization
