Resumo
This article examines Wayãpi shamanic ideas about the causes of illness and misfortune. It argues that the analysis of causal statements is a useful way to understand such ideas and that the Wayãpi employ a variety of causal explanations, including witchcraft, soul loss, and spirit attack. The article also discusses the role of shamans in diagnosing and treating illness and misfortune.
