Resumo
This chapter examines the complex relationship between monotheism, intolerance, and iconoclasm in the context of Akhenaten's religious reforms in ancient Egypt. Volokhine challenges the simplistic notion that monotheism inherently leads to intolerance and iconoclasm. He argues that Akhenaten's actions were driven by specific political and religious motivations within the context of the Amarna period, rather than being a direct consequence of monotheistic belief. The chapter explores the nuances of Akhenaten's theology and its impact on the religious landscape of ancient Egypt, highlighting the debates and complexities surrounding the interpretation of his unique form of monotheism.
