Resumo
This review essay discusses two recent books on the history of indigenous peoples in Brazil: *Red Gold: The Conquest of the Brazilian Indians, 1500-1760* by John Hemming and *Native American Historical Demography* edited by Henry F. Dobyns. Hemming's book provides a detailed account of the conquest and enslavement of Brazilian Indians by European colonizers, focusing on the period from 1500 to 1760. Dobyns' edited volume explores the demographic history of Native Americans, examining the impact of European contact on indigenous populations. The essay highlights the importance of these works in understanding the complex history of indigenous peoples in the Americas and the devastating consequences of colonialism.
