This chapter explores the characteristics of human default sensory consciousness from philosophical, psychoanalytic, mental health, Buddhist, and neuroscientific perspectives. It compares this default mode to the consciousness achieved in jhāna meditation. The discussion extends to neuroscience models of nested hierarchies within self-organizing systems and their associated Markov blankets, exploring the potential forms of consciousness within these systems. Finally, it briefly discusses the Earth's hierarchical system in interaction with global societies and the potential information geometries linking "outer" with "inner" experiences, particularly in light of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic
