Resumo
This chapter examines the historical viability of a high Arctic hunting community, focusing on the northwest Greenland settlement of Kullorsuaq. Hastrup challenges the conventional narrative of decline often associated with such communities, arguing that their resilience stems from a dynamic interplay between tradition and adaptation. She explores how the inhabitants of Kullorsuaq have navigated changing economic and environmental conditions over time, maintaining a strong connection to their hunting heritage while embracing new opportunities. The chapter highlights the importance of understanding local perspectives and the active role communities play in shaping their own futures, emphasizing the ongoing negotiation between cultural continuity and the forces of globalization and climate change.
