This article analyzes Alain Mabanckou's representation of Africa, arguing that it deviates from the approach of his predecessors. Instead of focusing on the contradictions of existing between two worlds and cultures, Mabanckou's novels present an Africa shaped by clichés and stereotypes, largely formed externally. This image portrays a continent trapped in an immediate present, devoid of a meaningful past, due to the influence of mass media and information technology. The article suggests that the perceived authenticity and African identity in Mabanckou's texts are not solely a product of his writing style, but rather a result of a discourse that manipulates signifiers. These signifiers are initially received as accurate representations of political, social, cultural, and human realities, and subsequently validated by the media and the book market
