Resumo
This article discusses the relationship between political economy and economic anthropology, focusing on the Siane people of New Guinea. Godelier argues that economic anthropology should not be limited to the study of primitive or archaic societies, but should also address the economic systems of modern societies. He criticizes the traditional Marxist approach to economic anthropology, which he believes is too focused on the mode of production and neglects the role of ideology and culture. Godelier proposes a new approach that integrates the insights of both political economy and anthropology, taking into account the specific historical and cultural context of each society. He uses the example of the Siane to illustrate his argument, showing how their economic system is shaped by both material and symbolic factors.
