This paper investigates vowel changes, particularly focusing on the vowel *a, within the Tapirapé language, a member of the Tupi-Guarani family. By introducing the concept of chronological ordering for these vowel changes, Leite aims to refine the classification of Tapirapé within the broader Tupi-Guarani linguistic group. The study analyzes specific sound shifts and their implications for understanding the historical development and relationships between Tapirapé and other related languages
