De nombreuses femmes des Caraibes font juger les peres de leurs enfants quand ceux-ci ne les aident plus. L'A. en explique les raisons et etudie les rapports qui existent entre la justice et les relations de parente a Antigua (Antilles). Il montre l'importance de la loi coloniale dans la creation de l'organisation locale de ces relations (statuts du mariage, bâtardise et soutien pour les enfants illegitimes). Il decrit les tribunaux (hierarchie), la legislation contemporaine et les caracteristiques sociologiques des plaideuses (basse classe). Il conclut sur les consequences de ces donnees pour comprendre l'origine et le developpement de l'ideologie et de la structure familiale aux Caraibes
