Apres un rappel historique sur les Chickasaw et archeologique concernant le site de Meadowbrook (ville de Tupelo, nord-est du Mississippi), les AA. emettent la these que les enterrements en tas du 18 eme siecle concernent les morts survenues loin du village et que la proportion d'ensevelissements enregistres dans un village chickasaw peut etre liee au nombre de conflits exterieurs ayant eu lieu pendant l'occupation. Une evaluation des donnees de deux sites archeologiques et de plusieurs sources documentaires permettent de conclure que les Chickasaw connurent leur activite militaire la plus faible au 18 eme siecle
