Relying on the results of a research project conducted within the framework of the " Groupe de sociologie du travail the paper attempts at explaining why part of the tradition of organization sociology leads to a dead end, when trying to work out direct correlations between types of techniques and types of organizational patterns within companies. Indeed technology proves to be a bad predictor for organization pattern, because both are dependant on the market, and the way it weighs on the company. Henceforth the necessity of delineating the observation field taking into account such a major dimension and dismissing the notion of technology as a determining variable
