FOR SOME TIME PAST the political deadlock in India has been overshadowed by the tragedy of famine in Bengal and other eastern regions of the country; but it now seems possible to hope that the worst of the famine is over; and it is inconceivable, however short supplies of food and shipping may still be in this coming year, that thousands of Indians will again be allowed to die of starvation.
