We are pleased to present, in this issue and the next, a group of papers on the general topic of Cultural Policy in India. Four of the papers-by Lloyd I. Rudolph and Susanne Hoeber Rudolph, Robert S. Anderson, Franklin A. Presler, and Joan L. Erdman-were originally delivered at the Thirty-Third Annual Meeting of the Association for Asian Studies, Toronto, Canada, March 1981, and have been revised for publication. The paper by Norman Cutler has been added in the meantime, as has Lloyd I. Rudolph's introductory essay. Rudolph's introduction, together with papers by the Rudolphs and by Anderson, appear in the current issue. Papers by Presler, Erdman, and Cutler will be carried in our Summer 1983 issue
