F all of the various reforms which, under Allied pressure, are tJbeing effected in Japan today, the land-reform program is among the most important. Its terms are quite broad and, if completely successful, it may produce results more lasting than those of any other reform. The present article proposes (i) to indicate the significance of the land problem in the democratization of Japan, (2) to demonstrate the attitude toward land reform of the Japanese ruling groups, (3) to analyze the Land Reform Law, from which the reform stems, and (4) to examine the present stage of reform
