Dans l'Inde contemporaine, rien ne semble avoir change depuis le dix-neuvieme siecle en ce qui concerne la place de la langue anglaise dans l'education et la reproduction des elites. Apres avoir montre le processus colonial d' « anglicisation » de l'Inde, etablissant la langue anglaise, langue officielle comme moyen de controle social, l'A. montre que dans la societe indienne d'aujourd'hui, l'anglais reste la langue de l'intelligentsia et demeure attachee a de nombreux privileges economiques, politiques et culturels de la classe dirigeante
