The Integrated Health Care System is presented as anappropriate system capable of helping meet global healthcare needs in a satisfactory manner. It is a system thatconsciously targets and harnesses peoples’ links with biodiversityfor health reasons. It is an integrative and positivetool blending health, economic, and biological andcultural diversity conservation needs of people and theirarea, all at the same time.Results from a study of health care conducted from 1993through 1997 at the ‘Clinique de Manongarivo’, a pilot ruralhealth center in northwest Madagascar practicing theIntegrated Health Care System approach, are used as evidenceof the viability of this system. In conclusion a callis made for re-thinking and re-acting of health policies toimplement the system in other countries
