Independant immigrants in France, a symbol of economical mutation in the years 80 Claude-Valentin MARIE Five major features characterize immigration in France in the economical space: the continuous degradation of their employment for foreign specialized workers in building and factory (car) sectors ; the relative progression of their numbers in service activities due to their qualification; the increase then the stabilization of their number among situations wanting (women; Algerians being most concerned); the increasing participation to independent activities (the number of foreign craftsmen, merchants and contractors grows by 26% between 1975 and 1982, i.e. about 100 000 persons, the rate of success of these ventures better than the French one); and at last their renewed presence in illegal types of activities and employment. These changes reveal a same economical logic in a same world of socio-juridical recombining of work relation. We thus attend the emergence of « joint works », of sub-contracts, in complex juridical combinations of transnational space
