Factors and forms of the experience of unemployment. The rise in levels of «youth unemployment» is liable to obscure the extreme diversity of the situations referred to as «unemployment». This emerges from the statistical survey carried out in four departements in October 1975 on a sample of 3 000 under-25s registered with the national employment agency as unemployed, and a biographical study of 50 of them, interviewed five years later. As well as being unequally exposed to unemployment, young people from the different social classes and with different educational characteristics also face forms of unemployment which differ not only in their material conditions but also in their duration and in the ways and the objective and subjective possibilites of getting out of it
