The relationship between television viewing and the behavior of children is currently a matter of societal concern and scholarly debate. This paper examines the potential effects of television on adjustment to family and peers of Icelandic children, along with the relationship between amount of viewing and these adjustments. Although the findings of the questionnaire survey showed no differences in adjustment between TV Area (n=716) and No-TV Area (n= 598) children, the data did reveal that higher amounts of viewing were associated with lower levels of adjustment. Thus, television is seen as an alternative, to that of meaningful interaction with family and peers, for children with adjustment problems
