The consular elections : history and state of affairs. Dominique Andolfatto. [25-431. The consular elections of members of both commercial courts and Chambers of commerce, are concerning every three years more than a million and a half of firm managers. The electoral system is fairly complicated, being the resuit of a long evolution. This evolution coincides with the stages of both the opening up of democracy and political votes, and the debates concerning the representation of socio-economic interests. Those debates oppose regularily the "big" and the "little" bosses... even if the very experience of the Chambers of commerce doesn't seem to be influenced by such a social clivage. The weakness of the consular system is above all the resuit of the voters' massive abstention, which raises unavoidably the question of its real representativity
