O artigo tem como objetivo reconstruir a interpretação textualista de Leo Strauss sobre a teoria política de Thomas Hobbes. Argumenta-se que, na leitura do teórico alemão radicado nos Estado Unidos, emerge do pensamento do autor de Leviatã a noção de busca incessante pela estabilidade existencial como objetivo último de todos e indivíduos e, por conseguinte, da necessidade do direito natural ao Estado
