Esta é uma pequena História do quilombo do Catucá. Ele foi um resultado da luta dos escravos pela liberdade e um subproduto do caos político em Pernambuco, entre 1817 e o final da década de 1830. Morando muito perto do Recife, os quilombolas se tratavam mutuamente por malungos (companheiros da viagem da África) e elaboraram uma série de estratégias de sobrevivência, que incluíam a cooperação da população negra livre e dos escravos dos engenhos próximos. This is a short history of the struggle of slaves for freedom, and a byproduct of the political chaos of Pernambuco between 1817 and the late 1830's. Living near Recife, the maroons treated each other as malungos (shipmates in the middle passage) and devised a series of strategies of survival which included the cooperation from the free black population and slaves of the nearby engenhos.
