Cultural policies and mediatic controversies. Vincent Dubois. [5-193] As «cultural policies» above all exist in representations, the sociology of the intellectual and mediatic debate about «State and Culture» is a prerequisite to analysis. To contribute to such a sociology, this article proposes a reading of the two most important books in this issue : Marc Fumaroli's Etat culturel and La comédie de la culture, by Michel Schneider. Intervening on several grounds, they cumulate mediatic benefits together with the recognition of «serious» books. Doing so, the range of these writings is widened , their potential uses diversified, and their effects are increased
