Este artigo revisita o texto clássico de Marcel Mauss sobre a oração (1909), invocando um dos seus principais argumentos - o da "centralidade epistemológica" do ato de prece no fenômeno religioso - como pretexto para a análise de processos rituais e doutrinais na chamada Igreja Tokoista, um movimento cristão profético de origem angolana.
