Habermas and the Theory of Modernity Barbara Freitag The present article tries to separate from the vast work of Jürgen Habermas his Theory of Modernity, immersed within a mass of publications but never developed explicitly by the author himself in a synthetic text. It is through the critical analysis of sociological, philosophical, aesthetic and Marxist discourses on modernity that Habermas suggests a Theory which surpasses the theoretical and practical impasses to which the works of Weber, Adorno, Horkheimer, Foucault, Derrida, Lyotard, Marx, Lenin, Stalin, and many others lead us. The Theory of Modernity intends to learn from the fallaciousness, aporia, and impasses of these classic works of thought, proposing, thanks to this, new solutions to overcome the pathologies of the modern age.
