MADISON AVENUE LATIN SIDE: ADVERTISING MESSAGE AND LATIN CULTURE FICTIONS Arlene Davila The Hispanic publicity industry had a development burst, mainly in the 60s, with the quick growth of the so called Latino population in New York, especially with the Cuban and Puerto Rican migration implications. Nowadays, the Latinos represent an important segment of the North-American consumer market. The text raises issues on Latinism as a way of homogenizing a heterogeneous population, facing the growth of the Hispanic marketing industry in the United States. It also focus on the commercial selfrepresentation and producer-product/consumer identification forged in the concept ofauthenticity.
