Between old pictures and social networks: pathways of photographic research in the interior of Minas Gerais and Paraíba Abstract This article presents an account of photographic research started in Caldas-MG and aims to reflect on its results. It was an attempt to combine research interests with local historical photographs to some methodological perspectives of visual anthropology. The focus in old pictures, from several local families, enabled the mobilization of different individuals for the same collective work, which generated forms of sociability around the photographs. Then it presents comparative data from other research that is being developed in Rio Tinto-PB. We try to attend, along these paths of research, for the specifics of photographic research in small towns as well as to the meaning of anthropological work and the conditions of the researcher's insertion.
