O texto pretende analisar as atuais demandas do mundo do trabalho em saúde, que vem exigindo um novo perfil de competência profissional para o trabalhador do setor saúde pública, numa perspectiva de redefinição da educação profissional voltada para aquele setor, apontando para a necessária reflexão sobre as questões de biossegurança como um conhecimento que possibilita o controle dos riscos que o trabalho científico pode aportar ao ambiente e à vida. BIO-SAFETY AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE: a new challenge for education in the health sector The text intends to analyze the present health demands in the world of work, which require a new profile for the public health sector worker in terms of professional competence in a perspective of redefining the vocational education oriented to that sector. It points out to the necessary thoughts on bio-safety issues as a kind of knowledge that the scientific work can offer to environment and to life, thus enabling he control of risks.
