This article analyzes the presence / absence of immigrants as political subjects in the Spanish academic literature. The author first explores the field of study of migrations, focusing on the communications presented to five congresses specialized events held between 2004 and 2012; and in the articles published in the magazine Migrations Then complement this data with communications about action group presented at the last congresses of the Spanish Federation of Sociology. The analysis reveals a double absence: the political dimension goes unnoticed by those migrants study, and migrants go unnoticed by those who studycontemporary practices of collective action. These results make necessary a intense epistemological surveillance that allows us to recognize the limits of our gaze, and invite to problematize the coloniality of knowledge that crosses our disciplines
