The notion and the criticisms of culture are central to the definition of ethnomusicology and other fields, made by both researchers in the area and other academics. This definition is made according to a division of intelectual work, that can be perceived in the conformation of disciplines. In our experience as teachers, we observe that the work of students not only challenges the themes most commonly associated with the field from this division, but also shows the particular ways of questioning the phenomena they face. The ongoing discussion about the historical and intellectual configuration of ethnomusicology, as part of teaching support, leads us to conceive it as a post-disciplinary field. Moreover, we suggest that the possibilities of enrolling in etnomusicoogy and speak using criticism as a practice emerge in the ability to sustain uncertainty
